C'est Sympa
Restaurant C'EST SYMPA
Situated near Nijo Castle, C'est Sympa presents refined French multi-course dining free of heavy richness, distinguished by expressive sauces and an unexpected salmon ochazuke course before dessert.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just after savoring the satisfying depths of the main course, diners are presented with a light bowl of salmon ochazuke right before dessert. Situated along Oike-dori south of Nijo Castle, C'est Sympa weaves subtle, comforting Japanese sensibilities into the classic progression of a French course. While retaining the deep, concentrated flavor profile characteristic of authentic French cuisine, the preparations avoid heavy oils and fats, allowing guests to comfortably enjoy the meal all the way through to the end.
Meticulous technique is evident across every dish, starting with seasonal vegetable soups that delight the eye—such as a Shogoin turnip potage patterned delicately like flower petals or a vibrant butternut squash soup. Whether it is crisply seared red sea bream from Ehime Prefecture, tender slow-roasted Challans duck, or steak complemented by foie gras, the deep, nuanced sauces draw out the natural character of each ingredient so well that diners readily reach for more bread. Guests can also choose an assorted cheese plate in place of the ochazuke, paired with wines recommended by the sommelier to match each dish.
To finish, a fruit-driven dessert plate arrives alongside house-made mignardises and coffee, providing a gentle close to the meal. Inside, the dining room offers relaxed table seating alongside counter seats where diners can watch the kitchen's deft craft up close. Accepting reservations for both lunch and dinner, C'est Sympa is an appealing choice for anniversaries, travels, or any occasion calling for an unhurried, welcoming dining experience.
